Common faults of the steering wheel

Sep 06, 2022

Fault 1. The steering wheel is locked.

The steering wheel of the car can't be turned, and the key can't be turned. What's going on? Many new owners have encountered such a problem. In fact, the reason is very simple. After the vehicle is turned off, the steering wheel will automatically lock, which is a simple anti-theft function. This situation is not encountered every time the ignition is turned on. Generally, after starting the vehicle with the key, the steering wheel is automatically unlocked. Many car owners do not know much about this. However, sometimes the steering wheel is placed at a certain angle when parking, and this angle is just twisting the key to ignite and not unlock, and the above situation occurs. At this time, the owner should turn the key lightly with the right hand and turn the steering wheel lightly with the left hand, and the steering wheel will be unlocked naturally.

Fault 2. The steering wheel is scratched.

During operation, the impurities and rust must be removed first. The paint must be applied in small layers and a thin layer. After drying, apply the second layer until it is flush with the surrounding paint surface. After repairing, wait for a day before painting. After the surface is hardened, the car can be washed and waxed. There is a very simple and effective tip for repairing small scratches: Fill in the small scratches with toothpaste. This is especially true if your car is painted white. Dab the toothpaste on the light scratch, rubbing the circle counterclockwise with a soft cotton cloth. Doing so not only reduces scratch marks, but also prevents long-term air erosion of paint damage. If the scratches on the car body are deep and the area is large, you must enter a professional shop.

Fault 3. Steering wheel shakes.

When the driving speed is between 80 kilometers per hour and 90 kilometers per hour, the steering wheel shakes, and when the speed exceeds 90 kilometers per hour, it returns to normal. This situation is mostly caused by the deformation of the tire or the transmission system of the vehicle. It is necessary to check whether the positioning angles and toe-in of the front wheels meet the requirements. If they are out of alignment, they should be adjusted; set up the front axle and test the wheels to check the static balance of the wheels. Whether the tire is deformed too much, if it is deformed, it should be replaced.
